Turning back the hands of time—it’s a quest for many women who simply refuse to age gracefully. And with all that’s available aesthetically (Botox, wrinkle creams, etc.), the visible signs of aging can be erased altogether. But what about on the inside? Are there ways we can beat the clock for life when it comes to overall physical and mental health and well-being?  Dr. Jennifer Landa, MD, Chief Medical Officer of BodyLogicMD and author of The Sex Drive Solution for Women says yes.
“Staying young and beautiful forever used to be science fiction, but fiction is rapidly becoming fact, thanks to new medical advances,” Landa says. “Yesterday’s advances focused on disease management; today’s new frontier is staving off sickness and aging altogether.”

I sat down with Dr. Manny from Health Talk on FoxNews.com to discuss the risks and benefits of testosterone pellet therapy.

Pellet therapy has been around since the 1930s–the concept is probably about the same age as Premarin, but much like other bioidentical hormones, a lack of approval from the FDA has left the public fearful of the consequences of use.

In 2008, the FDA gave its blessing to Slate Pharmaceutical’s Testopel, bioidentical testosterone pellet therapy designed exclusively for men. As many have discovered the ease and effectiveness of this delivery method for testosterone, it has become increasingly popular for men and women.

5 things you can do right now to avoid breast cancer

November 7, 2011 in Healthy Living

I was at a conference last weekend where prevention of breast cancer was discussed at length. Although breast cancer awareness month is over, we need to prevent breast cancer all year long. Here are some tips.

1. Stop eating sugar and simple carbs- sugar feeds cancer. Simple carbs are “white” foods like bread, pasta, rice and crackers. These convert very quickly to sugar in the blood stream. Cancer cells thrive and grow in the presence of sugars.

2. Take B vitamins- B vitamins help with the way that estrogens are metabolized, or broken down, in the body. This is important for your body to get rid of estrogens safely.

3. Avoid overcooking meats. Chargrilling creates free radicals that increase your risk of cancer. Try eating meats medium rare to decrease this risk. Also, sprinkling the herb rosemary hs been shown to help decrease these free radical from charring meat.

4. Eat lots of broccoli. Broccoli contains sulforaphanes in studies has helped to slow the growth of breast cancer cells.

5. Avoid parabens. Parabens are known as xenoestrogesogens or environmental estrogens. These act like estrogens in the body and may increase our risk of breast cancer. Parabens are found in body lotions, shampoos and other personal healthcare products. Read labels and try to avoid using products with methylparaben and propylparaben.
